Apple announced financial results for its fiscal 2008 second quarter ended March 29, 2008. The Company posted revenue of $7.51 billion and net quarterly profit of $1.05 billion, or $1.16 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $5.26 billion and net quarterly profit of $770 million, or $.87 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 32.9 percent, down from 35.1 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 44 percent of the quarter’s revenue.
The company also said it was able to sell 1,703,000 iPhone in the first quarte of the year. It aslo shipped 2,289,000 Macintosh® computers during the quarter, representing 51 percent unit growth and 54 percent revenue growth over the year-ago quarter. The Company sold 10,644,000 iPods during the quarter, representing one percent unit growth and eight percent revenue growth over the year-ago quarter.
“We’re delighted to report 43 percent revenue growth and the strongest March quarter revenue and earnings in Apple’s history,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “With over $17 billion in revenue for the first half of our fiscal year, we have strong momentum to launch some terrific new products in the coming quarters.” Read the rest of this entry »

All eye’s were still on iPhone in the past week especially with the scheduled 80 iPhone essential sessions at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco, California, where developers get upclose with iPhone engineers and their questions about SDK answered in the various sessions.
The week also witnessed the announced of VoIP in iPhone 2.0 through Fring.
But the most controversial iPhone issue of the week is the price cuts that have been taking place around Europe. It was O2 that first introduced a £100 iPhone bundled with a monthly plan. Due to the alleged disappointing sales, several mobile phone carriers in Europe are now contemplating on following the footstep of O2 by offering Apple’s iPhone at lower cost to clear out their display closets.
Orange, the exclusive carrier of iPhone in France, was reported to be in talks with Apple for an iPhone price cut following a frustratingly low sales despite the hype created by the iPhone online.
With the coming of the 3G iPhone in the next few months, the mobile phone market is observed to be holding on to its money for the iPhone 2.0 instead of buying the currently available units that do not have 3G and other features yet.
