The State broadcaster’s iPhone application in China has received tremendous success. The Chinese regulators are leaving no stone unturned to let the whole world know of it. Infact their reports claim that since its launch almost 2000 users have been added on a daily basis. There have been about a million others who have signed up in a single month. This is quite a number to reckon with.
However on closer examination the figures are not as good. The results that are quoted include individuals who have subscribed to China Mobile and China Unicom streaming TV services. However 50 million subscribers for streaming TV is an absolutely brilliant number!
The State Administrator of Radio Film and Television has already stated that the iPhone application has gained immense popularity. This is all due to the “strongly recommend” Apple applications stores in China. The regulators are only hoping that it is adopted elsewhere.
You can easily gain access to this application, since it is available in the iTunes stores worldwide. However you needn’t get confused on their title which says CCTV.COM, although you could enjoy it if you are equally happy about watching media that is state-sponsored.
China is looking to capture the world media market. And don’t be surprised if you find new additions creeping up from this side of the shore. The iPhone application seems to be an excellent way to go about the idea. Although we all know that Apple will not be completely happy about the same.

China Mobile, the world’s largest mobile carrier with more than 300 million subscribers in China, said it turned down the offer of Apple for the Chinese company to be the exclusive carrier of iPhone in China.
China-iPhone.com quoted China Mobile Chairman Wang Jianzhou as saying that concerns about business models and commercialization have prevented the two sides from further continuing talks to sell the iPhone in China.
If this is correct, Apple’s plan to introduce the iPhone in China this year is facing a blank wall. Apple should immediately reconsider its offer and ensure that China Mobile will accept the iPhone to ensure a wider market in China.
But even without the official arrival of iPhone in China, at least 100,000 iPhone units have been reportedly sold in the Chinese markets.
