Yes, there are a lot of mobile phone manufacturers who have tried but didn’t generate much interest as Apple’s iPhone. Nokia hugged the headlines when information about its touch screen phone Nokia Tube 5800 leaked online. It was considered as an iPhone challenger for a while but even as the unit has not been released to the market yet, the Nokia Tube fever has died down and all eyes are now back to iPhone with the coming of the iPhone 2.0

Now, Research In Motion (RIM), the creator of the phenomenal Blackberry is reportedly hot on the trail of iPhone when the reported introduction of a new Blackberry unit that will surely challenge the status of Apple’s baby.

Which is just the right thing for RIM to do. Introduce revolutionary touch screen phones that will compete with the iPhone if the company still wants to take a bite at the smart phone pie. If it remains stagnant and feel confident with the way its Blackberry is selling, RIM is doomed.

The iPhone sold like hot cake when it was first introduced less than a year ago (although sales now are going down due to the coming of the iPhone 2.0) and observers are saying that the iPhone 2.0 (complete with business and entertainment features and 3G capabilities) will topple down all the mobile phone around the world. RIM should not take that prediction for granted unless its executives are starting to pack up their things and go on a vacation.

The good thing about this competition is that mobile phone users are given many choices on what unit to buy and mobile phone manufacturers are adding more and more features in their mobile phones to entice buyers.

It will be in few years time (or even months) that mobile phone manufacturers will introduce mobile phones that can call or send messages even without a network carrier. Don’t tell me you don’t like that. :)
