Bank of America Corp., in its forecast, said Apple will probably produce at least 11 million 3G-enabled iPhones starting May through September this year.
In a report to investors, Bank of America’s Scott D. Craig said: “Our iPhone estimates are starting to look too conservative at 8 million units” in 2008.
Apple has already announced the production of second generation iPhone, the iPhone 2.0, which caused a lot of predictions as to its features, which the iPhone manufacturer has not disclosed until now.
Earlier, Gartner analyst Ken Dulaney believes that Apple has placed a 10 million unit-strong order for another round of iPhone release and these units are most likely to be 3G-capable. (more…)

Apple on Thursday released the second beta version of the software development kit (SDK) for building applications for the iPhone and the iPod Touch that includes an interface builder, the Xcode integrated development environment, the iPhone simulator, frameworks and samples, compilers, and the Shark analysis tool.
Developers who want to share their applications to the iPhone will have to apply for membership and download the SDK at Apple’s website.
When the first beta version of the SDK was launched on March 6, more than 100,000 iPhone developers have downloaded it in the first four days. Leading developers such as AOL, Electronic Arts, Epocrates, salesforce.com and Sega have already demonstrated amazing applications using the SDK, and developer response continues to be phenomenal with more developers embracing the platform. Gartner analyst Ken Dulaney believes that Apple has placed a 10 million unit-strong order for another round of iPhone release and these units are most likely to be 3G-capable.
Dulaney’s analysis of a 3G iPhone is very real because Apple will surely not release a new batch of iPhone, 10 million units at that, without the 3G technology that was lacking in the first wave.
Dulaney also indicatest that the new round of iPhone units will have a new display technology that will utilize the Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED), making a slimmer 3G iPhone. With the OLED display, battery performance of the iPhone will be increased because it does not have to power a backlight.

Due to several email inquiries, we have decided to rerun this story on simple steps that iPhone users can take to ensure that no virus can enter their mobile phones.
When I was invited to talk about mobile phone virus a few months back, the first tip that I gave out against phone viruses is to always say ‘no’ when your phone asks to install a program you are not familiar with.
With mobile phones functioning more like computers (accessible by hackers), it’s no surprise that hackers and virus writers have the popular iPhone in their sights. Ari Hypponen, chief technical director of Helsinki-based computer security firm F-Secure, told me that the iPhone, and other smart phones that have Bluetooth, Microsoft and Symbian software, are the most likely targets of high tech viruses.
The easiest and cheapest way to stop viruses from spreading inside your iPhone is to take some simple precautions: (more…)

An iPhone in the Philippines that was unlocked for Globe Telecom
After the news about SingTel sealing a deal (?) with Apple for the release of iPhone in Singapore, the question now is which telecom firm will win the exclusive rights to bring iPhone to the Philippines. (Editor’s Note: SingTel has not confirmed the reports yet)
Smart Communications and Globe Telecom are two telecom giants in the Philippines and are, therefore, considered as the top contenders for the iPhone exclusivity. Both companies, however, have not issued any confirmation of talks with Apple but Smart Communication’s 3G infrastructure will surely make it more qualified to carry the iPhone.
But having 3G facilities is still not a question right now because Apple has not issued a statement regarding which type of iPhone (the one with the 3G or the one without) will be released to Asia. If it comes without the 3G, Smart and Globe can surely slug it out to decide who will carry the iPhone. (more…)

Digg founder Kevin Rose, the same guy who previously predicted that the iPhone would launch with two battery compartments and slide-out keyboard, said the 3G iPhone will have a 2-way Video Chat soon.
Rose said the 3G iPhone will use a dual-camera setup for the video conferencing and will utilize the iChat application of the iPhone 2.0 that will be launched in the next few months.
To meet the demands of the iPhone 2.0, AT&T, the exclusive network partner of the iPhone, has announced that they’ve got some massive 3G upgrades planned for 2008.

EA Games has confirmed the coming of Spore on September while Sega is also busy with their Super Monkey Ball – two of the many games iPhone users can expect in the next few months, especially with the release of iPhone 2.0.
The games exploit the iPhone’s accelerometers, which detect how you’re tilting the iPhone in any dimensions. iPhone users simply tip the iPhone forward, back, left, right, up, or down to control the monkey ball or to navigate Spore.
With the iPhone’s built-in three-axis accelerometer, a new chapter in handheld gaming will soon be unleashed, making the era of the thumb-burning Snake and Tetris obsolete. (more…)

Burt Adams of Michigan emailed us today to ask about the best ways to prolong battery life for iPhone. We have scanned Apple’s website and here are the tips that might be useful for extending the battery life of your iPhone.
Keeping the iPhone out of the sun or a hot car greatly saves your battery life. Heat sucks your battery’s performance the most so better keep your iPhone in a pouch or inside your bag where sun rays cannot sip in.
You should also lock your iPhone when you are not using it (Sleep/Wake button, will do this), especially if you place it in your pocket or inside your bag. Of course, you can still receive calls and text messages even if your iPhone is locked but nothing will happen if you accidentally or unknowingly touch the screen. The light won’t turn on, thus saving battery. (more…)
